Two Smoke Detectors for Every Room

24 03 2009

I was visiting my sister this past weekend. They recently added an in-law suite in their home for my parents. My wife and I were lying in the bed Saturday morning and noticed there were two smoke detectors on the wall side by side. As I visited other rooms in the house, I noticed the same thing. Two smoke detectors for every room. My curiosity forced me to ask the obvious question “why two smoke detectors in every room?” The answer…apparently my dad was put in charge of checking the smoke detectors on a monthly basis. This past month some of the detectors were not working. Instead of replacing the batteries, my dad bought new detectors and hung them next to the old ones. whatzupwithat?

What happened to my 24 recording?

17 03 2009

Like many Americans, the DVR has become a necessity in life. I find myself so busy that without my DVR, it would be impossible to keep up with my nightly soap operas and reality shows. Monday night is Jack Bauer night and 24 is my show. I had begun to lose interest after the writer’s strike last year but this season has me hooked big time! Last night we had company over for dinner so we missed 24 in real time. Lucky for me, I subscribe to the Comcast DVR feature and 24 is set to record weekly. After our company departed, I sat down to watch Mr Bauer save the world. Unfortunately, I didn’t see 24 listed on my list of recorded movies. In place of 24 were 20 episodes of Dora the Explorer. whatzupwithat?

The Foot Massager

10 03 2009

One of the best birthday gifts I ever received was a gift from my wife a few years back. It was the glorious foot vibrator/massager from Brookstone. How nice it is at the end of a long day to rest your feet on it and let it vibrate the tiredness away. Well, recently the kids spent a few days with us. Like us, they too love the massager. The massager was running for about 4 days straight until it burned out and died an early death. I have really been missing that important gadget but realized it’s only a gadget and I have to move on with my life. Last night we went over to our kids house for dinner. They showed me their new super duper leg/foot massager. I put my legs in and began to enjoy the pampering. Then it hit me. My foot massager was the one that broke and they celebrated by buying themselves a new one. whatzupwithat?

The Baby Geyser

26 02 2009

There is a new baby hanging out around our house. He is definitely bringing a great deal of joy along with many interesting moments . We are experiencing a phenomenon that I have heard stories of before and seen on TV but always thought is was urban legend. The minute his diaper comes off, the geyser of pee begins!  whatzupwithat?

The Liquid Soap People

3 02 2009

The world is constantly evolving. Liquid soap was introduced over a decade ago. I think it’s the perfect solution for the kitchen, the bathroom sink , public restrooms, and restaurants. However, I do still prefer that bar of soap in the shower. Liquid soap takes too much time to constantly be picking up the bottle to squeeze out a little more each time you need it during a shower. I have heard the argument that liquid soap is a safer way to prevent germs from spreading if multiple people use the same shower but I would beg to differ. People have germs on their hands, they spread germs to the liquid soap bottle as they pick it up, I get the germs when I am the next person to pick up the bottle and the germs live forever! If someone uses a bar of soap doesn’t the bar of soap clean itself when water runs over it? My entire family has adopted this liquid soap thing for the shower. When I visit them, there is no bar soap to be found. Do I dare touch that bottle of soap which I know is full of germs? How much does that bottle of soap cost anyway? What happens to the empty plastic bottle as it is deposited in the trash dump? Does it live forever? What is so wrong with a bar of soap “Liquid Soap People”? whatzupwithat?

California Pizza Kitchen Please!

23 01 2009

We are out with family at the South Coast Plaza Mall in Orange County, CA trying to find a place to eat lunch. We pass up this nice little French cafe in favor of the fast food verison California Pizza Kitchen because one of our family members is dying to eat there. We decide to let that particular family member go up to the counter and order for us all. Thinking this family member is a California Pizza Kitchen conniseuer, we are expecting some great pizza. Maybe the barbeque chicken? Our mouths are watering as we anticipate pizza. The family member shows up with cold club sandwiches! whatzupwithat?

Carb Temptation

6 01 2009

Just like millions of people in the world, I decided to begin the new year with a vigorous diet and exercise regiment. I have a daily exercise routine but took Thanksgiving through New Years off :) My new diet is a modified version of the Atkins diet. Basically, no carbs. There was a kick off celebration the previous day at Johnny Rockets with onion rings and a milkshake! WOW! What a way to celebrate.! Monday, the first day of the diet, was tough, as my body began to beg for brownies, cookies, chocolate and anything with sugar. I managed to do well until dinner time. My lovely wife made an incredible meatloaf. I consumed about 2 lbs of beef because that’s allowed on my diet. Then we had some friends stop over. My wife broke out the tortilla chips and some cookies we had left from the holidays. And then it happened. Our friend gave us a gift. A very large box of Godiva (my favorite) chocolate truffles! whatzupwithat?
